Dundas Blues Music

The quickest way to reach us is support@peacocktech.ca. If you are reporting a problem, it helps to include your iPadOS version and the app version, which is shown in the app's Settings → About.

Getting started

On an empty board, tap Add Sample Sounds to try the app with eight sounds made for it. To add your own, use the + button and choose Import from Files or Import from Music Library. Tap a tile to play it.

Importing audio

Some of my songs are missing from Import from Music Library

Only songs you own that are downloaded to the iPad can be imported. Apple Music subscription songs are copy-protected, so they can't be used as clips and aren't listed. To use a song you bought, download it in the Music app first.

A tile says "Audio missing"

The clip's audio file couldn't be found. Tap the tile to choose a replacement file (or, for a song from your music library, to import it again). You can also long-press any tile and choose Replace Audio…. The tile keeps its name, colour, category, volume and fades; its trim is reset, since the new audio is different.

Playing and stopping

Stopping everything

Tap Stop Music at the top of the board to fade everything out. Touch and hold it for Stop All Immediately. On a hardware keyboard, Esc fades everything out and ⌘. stops at once.

Stopping one clip

Tap a playing tile to fade it out. You can change what that tap does in Settings → When Tapping a Playing Tile: stop it, restart it, or play another copy on top. Whatever the setting, long-pressing a playing tile and choosing Stop stops just that clip.

Fades

Settings → Default Fade Out sets how long clips take to fade when stopped. A clip can have its own fade in and fade out, set by long-pressing it and choosing Edit. Clips that play to the end always fade a little, so a roughly cut clip never stops abruptly.

Played tiles

Tiles dim and get a checkmark once played, so you can see what's been used. Reset them all with the Reset Played button (⌘R), or one at a time by long-pressing a tile and choosing Mark as Unplayed.

Organising a board

Categories

Long-press a tile and choose Category to file it under Goal, Penalty, Music or a category of your own. Tiles in a category share its colour. Use the Categories button to rename or recolour them, and Arrange to drag them into the order the board is sorted by.

The queue

Long-press a tile and choose Add to Queue to line it up. Queued clips play one after another, each starting when the previous one ends. The Queue button shows what's playing and what's next, and Play Next (⌘→) skips ahead.

Keyboard shortcuts

Give a clip a key under Keyboard Shortcut in its Edit screen, then press that key on a connected keyboard to play it. The full list of shortcuts is in Settings.

Sound output

Use the AirPlay button at the top of the board to choose speakers, a USB audio interface or headphones. If headphones or an interface are unplugged, playback stops on purpose rather than switching to the iPad's speaker.

Boards

Moving a board to another iPad

Open the boards list with the button at the top left, long-press a board and choose Export…. Send the file by AirDrop or save it to Files. On the other iPad, open the file, or use + → Import Board File… in the boards list. The audio travels with the board.

Bringing boards from the desktop app

Put the desktop app's soundclips.json (and options.json, if you have it) in a folder together with your audio files, and copy that folder to the iPad. iCloud Drive or a USB drive both work. Then choose + → Import from Desktop App… in the boards list and pick the folder. Clips whose audio isn't in the folder are still imported, marked "Audio missing", so you can add the audio later.

Storage

Imported audio is stored inside the app, so clips play without a connection. Settings → Storage shows how much space audio and tile pictures use, lists clips by size, and can remove leftover files that no clip uses.

Playing music at events

Playing recorded music in public, such as at a game, may require a performance licence for the venue. Check with your arena or association.
